How to discover your purpose?

Finding purpose, meaning, our mission on this planet… there are many expressions to capture this need and process but what does purpose really mean?

Finding your purpose means aligning with your personal values and embracing ideals that are bigger than yourself.

Your purpose is found in performing voluntary self-sacrifice.

Carl Jung

In other words, your purpose is about using your strengths and experiences in order to offer something valuable to the world, contributing to the greater good, in a way that is meaningful to you. And it’s something that you would be willing to do it for free or even sacrifice things to support it.

Why is it important to find my purpose?

When you haven’t found your purpose, it feels like there’s always something missing. You feel like you keep working and struggling and running towards things, people and experiences that they don’t fulfil you and you don’t get the satisfaction you ideally want. Like there’s a missing part in your life’s puzzle.

On the other hand, when you do find your purpose:

  • You get clarity; everything starts to make sense and be meaningful.
  • You become focused; your attention and energy start pointing at a specific direction.
  • You feel some kind of connection, like you’re part of something bigger, something that you kind of belong there.
  • You start feeling passionate about it. All your thoughts, plans and actions are getting accumulated towards this purpose.
  • You finally feel motivated and driven to get up in the morning and seize the day. You now know what true motivation is about.
  • You feel powerful, energetic and ultimately fulfilled.

What’s the role of purpose coaching?

Coaching can be a valuable facilitator in helping identifying your life’s purpose, via the following ways:

  • Clarity & direction

Coaching can provide a structured methodology to help you gain clarity about your current status and your future goals. What do you want to achieve? What will you gain when you achieve it? How will you know that you did achieve it? How would it feel like? Why is this important? Through this process, you will get a deeper understanding of who you are, what do you truly want and what drives you.

  • Self-awareness

Coaching encourages self-reflection and self-discovery. Through dedicated exercises, you can identify your talents, interests, passions and personal values, how these are expressed in your daily life and how they can get better aligned with your life’s vision.

  • Confidence & Empowerment

In a coaching relationship, Coachees get a better understanding of their own strengths and abilities, they adopt a growth mindset, they become more confident and empowered to drive the necessary changes in order to fulfill their purpose.

  • Accountability & Support

One of the most significant benefits of having a Coach is accountability. The coach holds you accountable for the goals you set, encourages you to keep going, even when stuck, helps you stay on track and make continuous progress towards the goals you have set.

  • Coaching tools

Coaching offers a variety of practical tools that will help you discover your purpose and highlight insights that you may not be aware of, such as strengths assessments, personality tests, limiting beliefs identification, values exercises and exploration of key events and major turning points.

Having discovered your purpose, you can then focus on how you will turn this to reality; what do you need to plan, where do you need to apply extensive changes, what do you need to start implementing or eliminating and how this can start flowing in your life?
